Ā Ā Ā Affectionately known as the ‘bad boy of fashion’, Jean Paul Gaultier is a name thatĀ cannot be denied. While not formally trained, Gaultier is known for many notable works, including working with HermĆØs. He’s also known for his outlook on the world of fashion, taking on fashion norms and destroying them. After visiting his website, I was intrigued at how he looks at himself. Per his website,
A man of conviction, he sees himself more as a revolutionary, systematically calling into question clichĆ©s, standards, codes, conventions and traditions. He turns, shifts and flips them around – even destroys them – in his bid to reinvent them. (jeanpaulgaultier.com)
Gaultier is also known for other things other than simply his contribution to fashion, on the surface. This edgy designer is known to bend, if not, destroy the silent code of slim, young models for older ones, pierced and even tattooed orĀ overweight ones.
What is also interesting in whichĀ peopleĀ also know Gualtier well for, is his major contribution to the haute couture with amazingly elegant designs. Let’s not forget his fragrance:
Ā Gaultier has contributed so much amazing fashion since the 1970s, in which its rather difficult to say what is considered to be some of his best work. Nonetheless, its absolutelyĀ exhilaratingĀ to at least try. Her are some of my favorites of Gultier’s work:
Ā Ā The news of Kate’s passing is shocking and sad. We don’t know much on details as it is breaking but, she was found dead in her apartment in New York City. Per Collen Long with The Associate Press:
The 55-year-old left a note at the scene and was found by housekeeping at about 10:20 a.m. Itās not clear how long she had been dead. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy.
The officials said she was found with a red scarf around her neck attached to a doorknob. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Now, let’s start the week off with some amazingly expensive luxury designs. Enter Elie Saab. When I hear the name of this designer, I automatically think luxury, gowns, and premium quality fabrics. Still can’t distinctly remember a Elie Saab gown? Here’s one for you that you may remember:
This Lebanese-born fashion designer has been around for over 30 years, providing the fashion world with elegant gowns of embroidery and Swarovski crystals. Saab has also provided designs that are available in Neiman Marcus as well. I’ll show you one that can be purchased in your Neiman Marcus store.

Ā Ā Lan Yu is an internationally recognized fashion designer based in Beijing, China, known for her elaborate designs and wedding gowns. Ā With a store in New York City, Yu’s iconic peices are available to the public, including a ready-to-wear collection. There is something to be admired about a person who refuses to be deterred or ignore because they are ‘new’ on the scene. Enter Damir Doma. Doma is a Croatian born luxury designer. Although he graduated from fashion school in 2004, he has studied the likes in Munich and Berlin. Ā He has been referenced in recent hip hop songs and is followed closely and work is admired by celebrities such as Rihanna, Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, and Rosario Dawson. My destination in the Windy City? Midwest Fashion Week of course, which was founded and guided by Mr. Berny Martin.
As a fan of Mr. Martin’s work, I have followed Midwest Fashion Week over the years as they have acquired numerous mentions in notable magazines such asĀ IndyStar.com (USA Today),Ā ELLE Men, andĀ Ok! Magazine. Midwest Fashion Week not only brings forth talent and visions via the runway, but also raises money for charities and non-profit organizations.

Ā Ā In my travels throughout my life, I’ve noticed that a person’s face, a song, a location, an aroma…..things like this can remind you of something. Often, we can remember things vividly with such things to aid us. When Beyonce came on the scene with the song ‘Diva’ and wore those iconic shades at the beginning of the video, I was in a trance. Never did I imagine that I would one day get to meet the mastermind behind that piece of work. Those shades were made by no other than the celebrity designer, Stevie Boi (StevieBoi.com).Ā
